So this is something I’ve been wanting to try for a while now… I wanted to create some paintings that were pure motion and flow similar to the feeling of Asian character “shodo” painting. It’s also a painting created with restraint, in that I limited myself to two strokes of the brush, and a palate of only three colors. Finished with a free flowing splatter. I think I really like these, and need to experiment further.
What do you think?
Well, it’s been a long time coming, and I have been able to accomplish so much in the last few years, however it’s time to focus on my career as an artist.
I have been so fortunate to build two collaborative artist spaces, start a new theatre space and provide a launching pad for many local artists! I have learned a lot about myself and art marketing in our region. One big thing that I have learned I have tried to do too much all at once. That has made it hard for me to be good at the little stuff. It’s also come at the expense of my own growth. That being said, it’s time for a change!
I am in the process of setting up my very own studio/gallery space back in Akron! This space will be smaller than spaces I have operated in the past, but this time I will be the only artist in the space. In this new space I will have a decent size work area, and a little gallery space to showcase my most recent works. Additionally, outside my studio there is a grand hallway that will act as gallery space for me and the others artists in the space. The best part is, I am also located within the area of the Akron art walk!
I can’t wait to have you over for a visit! grand opening is planned for Saturday August 7th, 2010!
Stay tuned for details.
Well, it’s really starting to look like an exciting summer! First of all as you know, XainGO! got off to a rockin start at Playhouse Square. The audience loved the show, and the house manager and ushers were raving about it to the front office folks the next day! I’d say that’s a good start.
Next we are in the process of getting Arts Quest episode 3 in the can, and it’s shaping up to be another entertaining show. Look for that episode to start airing July 1st. That being said the other pilot’s that we are working on are coming together nicely as well!
What a great couple of weeks I’ve enjoyed in the media too!!! In this last month, I was featured on Fox 8 again, then had a photo spread appear in Akron Life and Leisure, I was featured with my film partner Blue, in that AND in a short feature in the West Side Leader. Finally I was also featured in the Hudson Explorer for my work with this years PTA art program. Free press is always a good thing for your art career!
That all being said this summer is off to a great start! I can’t wait to see whatbis next…
So, I got the call Wednesday morning. They have asked me to come back and make a baseball painting on the morning show for opening day. Of course, it looks like it’s gonna be crummy weather again. Gotta dress warm and bring a thermos o joe! If you are in northeast Ohio be sure to tune in Friday morning to see what I end up painting… Any suggestions…?
More cool classes in the lineup!
I have been planning and plotting with my friend Bernadette to come up with a cool new painting program for at the studios and at local schools! It’s going to be called the Painters Palate, and it’s all about paimting with things you can find in your kitchen! Stay tuned for more details soon.
More performances scheduled! Our booking agent really wants us to go for a run at Playhouse Square, so we have booked more shows there for later in the summer. Also, we are planning at performing at the following venues this spring and summer: who’s your momma festival in Kent, the Grace Park art fair, the Massillon Museum, and the First Annual Ananda Dance Festival.
Also, if you are in the Cleveland area, I will be on the television show Vision to discuss XaiGO, how it got started and what is in the works! I’ll have clips up on the website soon!
So, I am trying to get started on some new large size grafitti pieces, and I was having artists cramp, and couldn’t figure out how to get started this week. I decided to try to jumpstart the creative juices by simply playing around with a piece of canvas paper. In the end I really like this little painting, and now I am ready to get started in the big canvas!
